FLA showed its might by winning the FGC Open Water Championships held at the City of Miami Rowing Club in Key Biscayne for the second year in a row.
Last Saturday 125 FLA swimmers and another 500 athlete + 5 dolphins took part in the event; under perfect condition with blue skies and calm water. The 800 swim for the 10 and unders started with no delays. Right from the star FLA swimmers stood out, Greg Fernandez and Felipe Urrutia started a 1-2 finish in the Boys 10 and under age group. On the girl side FLA Sarah Bucaro came in a strong third place followed by Laura Zaidenberg, Adriana Rodriguez, Sarah Asseraf all with awesome swims that got them in top eight.
In the one mile swim FLA had two age group winners Emily Ramirez in the girls 15-16 and Alejandro Vassallo in the boys 13-14. Other very strong swims come from Nicholas Junghahn and Veronica Greulach who finished 2nd in the age group and Maria Aponte , Bettina Junghahn and Jose Alvary came in with a 3rd place finishes. Other big points for the FLA win came from Isabella Reyes Capo, Felipe Tilkian , Matias Junghahn, Matthew Yakymiw, Cheyenne Rodriguez, Sofia Bucaro and Star Fassler.
In the 17-18 age group we capture both 4th and the 5th position with Matthew Zielinski and Charles Williams in the boys side and Payton White and Alex Sotton in the girsl.
FLA showed its greatest dominances in the 5K, Lauren Driscoll, Damaris Iriondo and Amanda Ford swept the overall in the 15-16 girls categories for the first time in race history. Lindsey Meeder, Fallon Fitzpatrick and Danielle Smith put the cherry on the cake by finishing 2nd, 3rd, 4th respectively in the 17-18 girls.
In the girls 13-14, Katherine Zeintarski scored with a strong 7th place finish followed by Kassandra Blandon who came in 9th.
The Boys 5K competition was tough but FLA managed to score big with a 2nd place by Henry Kimball in the 17-18 and a 6th place from Ryan Rosenbaum in the 15-16 category. FLA master Kennon Williams had a great swim in the 10k race where he finished 3rd in the 25-29 men.
